After getting the a-ok from the original artists that inspired me, I've created a new digital version and made it available here for free download.

And of course, for your patience too; I know it took me a looooong time, but it's worth it, I promise! At long last, my very first self-hosted online class is ready to share. I am thrilled to finally be able to present my floral based e-course, Painting Petals, to the world! 

I've been infatuated with flowers for as long as I can remember. Growing them, arranging them and creating with them as inspiration. They make their way into nearly all of my artwork, whether it's in my paintings, art journals, or any number of craft projects. This ongoing life-long love affair with flowers made it a natural choice for my first online class. I can't wait to share all the methods, materials and techniques I use in my floral artwork with you!

If you follow me on Instagram, you are well aware of my never ending petal love. It's undeniable, I'm crazy for florals!

 

I look forward to sharing with you so many different ways you can express yourself with floral art. My hope is that by joining me in this 5-week lesson and project-based class, you'll be inspired and informed by my love of flowers and art making into creating your very own unique works of art. The imaginative drawing and loose painting I'll be teaching will bring a freedom and ease to your current artistic work. No matter your skill set, novice to professional, you'll learn how to capture leaves & petals in playful, spontaneous, original ways. Our focus here will be on impressionistic works of art; beautiful, expressive florals!

During class you'll see me create using liquid watercolors, colored inks, inexpensive acrylic craft paints, markers, pens and more. A full supply list will be furnished in class, both a general and specific list for each lesson and project. If you have any sort of an art practice now, you should be fine with your current stash of supplies. I have tried plenty of supplies and will share my favorites with you.  Substitutes and alternatives are encouraged for artistic development, and the benefits of doing so will be demonstrated. We are certainly going to be breaking some rules and overriding preconceived notions!

Wow. I can't believe it's finally here! It seems like it's been forever in the works...but my Creative Sketchbooking class over on Creativebug launches tomorrow (mid morning/afternoon PST)!!!!! I don't have a direct link for class to share until it's released, but in the meantime, if you aren't already a Creativebug member, you can sign up for a free two week trial. No credit card needed, it's truly a free trial- (ED: I'm hearing feedback that a credit card IS required. I'm on it and trying to find out if I misunderstood, or if I gave you wrong link etc. I will get back to you as soon as I know!!! 2nd ED: I misunderstood and mixed up the free trial and the prize free trial that's coming. If you sign up for the free trial, you are signing up for a membership and DO need a credit card, you get a 2 week trial for free to determine whether it's a membership you want to continue -and pay $4.95 a month for- or to cancel with no issue before payments actually start. I took a screenshot from the July preview of classes. This was filmed by the director Brian Emerick and he showed it to me after we were finished, I loved it instantly.

project life • week 19 & a discount code for you

 

It's no secret that I love washi tape, so when Amy Tan told me about this little holder, I couldn't resist it.  Speaking of Project Life, I've been falling farther and farther behind, but have recently jumped back in and am determined to catch up. 

 

So here's a look at week 19, May 6 - May 12- told you I'm behind! 

I was feeling stressed becuase really, we're almost in August...and I've still got a couple of packed weeks with travel before then. I know I don't HAVE to do any of it, and certainly don't have to do a spread for each week of the year, but I want to, I choose to, and so that's what I'm still planning on working toward. 

And as soon as I started back at it, I was reminded of how much I enjoy doing it, how happy I am that I decided to document our year this way for 2013. It's fun, and I am thrilled at the pages of our life captured that are accumulating. 

I do think doing the spreads so much later causes them to be different than they would be were I putting the spreads together closer to when they happened; there might be more text, or different pics, or or or, but I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing. So, really, it's all good, it's a work in progress, like everthing else in life, right? I've got a couple more spreads this close to sharing too and that feels great!

Hello there! I've been away moving my daughter out of her dorm room with a quick stop for a little art fun along the way. I had planned to blog from the road, but you know how time flies! Feels like I haven't been home or here on the blog for well over a week, even though it's been only four days. I guess it's because those days have been FULL. More to come on that here soon, in the meantime, you can read Mary Ann's blog posts recapping some of the fun.

Today we'll be celebrating Father's Day over here with my husband and dad. Hope you fathers out there are having a great day! This morning I got out my journal to do some journaling about my intention for the day.

I instagrammed it when it was at this phase:

Then I got out all my markers and went to town.

For those that want to know the markers I used: Copic Sketch, Prismacolors, Marvy and Faber-Castells.

I instagrammed the finished page too, I think it's fun to see the change once colored.

I thought it would be fun to make it a free printable for you, so I fixed a few things and made some changes in PhotoShop using my tablet, and made a finished colored in version as well:

free printable to color

On January 1st, as we were driving to the beach, I couldn't help but doodle in the car. Looking forward to coloring it in and thought you or your kids might enjoy coloring it in too. (to download free printable click Download Pgarrison2013 )

It's 2013,  that sounds so futuristic... I remember reading 1984 before it was 1984...and singing "party like it's 1999" long before Y2K ... right? Crazy how the future is here and now!! Hoping to make the most of it!

 

 

Zentangle untangled

I have the pleasure of participating in a blog hop for Kass Hall and her new book Zentangle untangled  today. Kass seems every bit as cute and fun as she appears in her about photos:

Of course, as a regualr doodler and journaler, I am drawn to the zentangle world, and really enjoyed reading Kass' take on the practice of zentangling, especially the medetative aspects. I have been inspired to try out some of the specific patterns that she illustrates too, which is a very different approach than I take when doodling.

The book has lots and lots of information in it, including a chapter on color (love her color wheel here), art materials, and art journals too.

But I most especially like this thought:

I love it when artists encourage others to begin, just try, play, participate. There is no perfection, and even though zentangle seems to lend itself to pursuing perfection, or more exacting than random doodling, that perfection is not the point. I appreciate Kass making a point of mentioning that.

Congratulations Kass on your fun book, I know authoring a book is such a labor of love born out of a desire to share your passion with others. Well done!

journaling weekend at studio crescendoh

 

This summer I'm teaching a 2 day Art Journaling class at Studio Crescendoh, the class is expected to go "live" and on sale today here: studiocrescendoh. It's going to be 2 days of art fun, day one we'll make two journals, a traditional long stitch bound water color paper filled jounal, and a free form, anything goes ring journal:

is your private information too easily accessible??

I recently learned about a site www.spokeo.com that says, "Spokeo is  a people search engine that organizes vast quantities of white-pages listings, social information, and other people-related data from a large variety of public sources."  They have tons of your personal information available, either for free or for a very small fee. Information like family memebers names and ages, income, home phone, and if you scroll down on your info page, an image of your house and surrounding streets etc.  While I understand that they are just culling information from public records (such as birthdate, home purchase price, taxes etc.), this site in particular makes it way to easy for others to access in my mind, and for who knows what use.

Here's how to remove your information if you don't want it there:

1.go to www.spokeo.com

2. enter your name and search

3. once you have found your page, copy the url in the browser window

4.scroll down to bottom and click on tiny light gray "privacy" link

5.scroll down to bottom and paste your url, enter email addy and security code word

6.go to your email and approve , your information should be removed pretty quickly.

7. you may need to do this a few times for nicknames or other addresses, you can only do 2x per email, so if you have more than two listings for yourself, use a different email.
