Thought I'd share what I got done while on the long road trip this past weekend. The above is the first one I did using the travel loom (linked to in last post). I really enjoyed using it and it's tools:
Here's what's on the loom now. I decided to just use all the little scrap pieces of yarn on this one and see what comes of all the different sizes and colors. No thinking whatsoever. That's always good on a roadtrip!
This is the one started last road trip (shown in beginning stages last post) completed while on this one.
I wanted to mention that even though some purchased weaving kits have come with needles that look like upholstery needles, I have found that these really long skinny ones or medium long plastic needles like these or these, to be preferred. The only issue with the plastic one is that the eye is so large (good for when threading yarn), it's hard to use it to tie down loose ends by going through loop on back of weaving. The long ones are nearly impossible to use for those loose ends, but the thin needle sure does go through tight weaving nicely.
And look!...
I grabbed a piece of cardboard out of the recycle bin and taught my niece how to do it. She took to it and was as determined to finish as her aunt! She just needed a little help with that diamond and filling in the surround, but for a first weaving ever? Awesome!
I bet she'll have her own wall of wonky weavings growing soon.

A friend texted me today after seeing this instagram and asked, "just curious, what are you doing with all those Southwestern looking things you make? It is decoration? Are they going to be part of something bigger?" which made me laugh, she should know me better by now, after 30 some years...who knows where it's going, just having fun exploring. And also, she obvs. doesn't check in on the blog anymore :), that's where what's going on is gabbed about!
