I KNEW you guys would "get" the closet! That's why I love you so: I have someone to share with who will be excited about the creativity, whether it's my creativity or someone else's that I'm sharing, it's just great to be understood. Thanks for all the closet love. I wanted to answer a few questions I received, so I"ll do so below and intersperse some photos since that's our favorite part anyway, right?
This is the wallpaper paste I used. I wasn't trying to be coy when I didn't mention the brand, I don't think it's the brand that matters, I think it's just the type of glue. Wallpaper paste in general is what my new favorite glue is. I bought this at Home Depot if you want to get the same. I did the whole closet off and on (which means I wasted a lot by starting and stopping...letting it dry in the pan, on the roller etc.) and I still have at least 1/4 of the container left.
Here's the closet today, with the top shelf installed and more things unpacked. Still have more to go...let's just say a big purge is coming soon!
I loved Lilli's comment about pinning a little note to the wall about the closet. Plan to do that one day. Gabrielle was asking where to get flocked paper. I'd suggest trying to order some at your local paint/wallpaper store, or of course, ebay...just try to be sure and read the fine print, because sometimes it smells bad, sometimes the roll is smaller than you think, and sometimes the shipping is a fortune. For wallpaper packs of scraps try art shows and sales (I buy some at every retreat I attend), etsy, or the links listed in the comments. I imagine I'll put some together in the future some day, it's just such a labor of love, I won't be able to do it before April for sure.
Michele suggested that one prime the closet walls with an oil based primer before papering so that you or the people after you could more easily remove the paper. Great idea. Let me think, there were other questions. The shelves in the middle are 12" deep for strength. I did not use any sealer. I left the paper very fragile and the roughed up spots from use or installation don't bother me a bit. psmullican asked what color is on my walls. I really didn't have ANY time to pick out colors for this house. I had to get everything done that I could within 1 week, so I stuck with the neutral I had painted in the old house pre-listing. Most of this house is painted in Sandcastle by Dunn Edwards. It's plenty fine for me. Any other ?'s I forgot to answer?
Here are a couple more photos, just because.
Non closet-related posting coming soon!
