Well, the title is a bit of a tease, because really, I don't have much to show you yet. The house doesn't really have too much of "us' in it. Not one thing has been hung on the walls (even though there has been much requesting of such, and it has been on many "to do" lists). We probably have 1/4 of our life to unpack still. But I'll show you some of the views that are making me happy when I look at them. Parts of the house that are starting to look like our home. (And by the way, in case anyone is considering it...the holidays is a really bad time to move, for so many reasons.)
Anyway, here is a view of the living room from the family room. One of my favorite cabinets. You can also see a tiny bit of the Christmas Tree which is up, but has not one light or ornament on it. It's a good thing I have kids, or I might have skipped the whole thing this year. Hopefully, we'll get to enjoy the tree decorating before the week is out.
Here is the hall, when looking from the kitchen area...the family room to the immediate left, the living room to the left of the stairs. What I was trying to capture in this photo was how filled with natural light the house is. I realize it doesn't look that way, but it is. So bright. It really is what I think sold me on the house the most.
Above is the kitchen nook chandelier, brought from the last house. I had the kitchen and dining room chandeliers taken down and replaced them before listing...didn't want to even go near that can of worms. Here's the one from the old dining room hanging in the new dining room. It's not going to stay here though, a new plan has taken hold of my imagination. You've seen both these chandeliers before, but I could take endless pictures of them. Maybe I should clean them too? That'd be a good idea.
Here's a little corner of the family room. It's temporary; the hunt is on for a couple special pieces for in here.
Another light fixture that was removed from the last home prior to listing. It is one of a pair which are now in the powder room. They used to be above the fireplace in our family room. I guess I get attached to light fixtures, who knew? It's just that they are so hard to find for me.
Here's a favorite basket. Simplicity is reigning here, with many belongings still in boxes...I know that many many things are going to end up in the growing "don't need this anymore" pile. As the pile grows, I feel lighter. This gray/blue seems to have taken hold of my eye so far. The last house had more green. The basket sits on an old armoire that used to hold the TV in our last home. Before moving in, I had the shiny, new, not-my-style built-in removed, and the corner re-drywalled. Someday, I'd love to find some antique doors to fit here and just have shelves inside. But stuff like that-the finding of the right size doors, the finding someone to retrofit them into the existing space...etc. seems so big to me, but I know people do it. I remember seeing a photo of Tracy Porter's home where she incorporated old salvaged doors into her pantry, that's what I'm talking about for this space.
But really, this is why I don't have much to show you. This is just a partial view of the garage. Another item that keeps showing up on the extensive "to do" list. I have way to much "stuff". Guess I should stop blogging and get back to making progress on this mess.
